Sebastian Schütze는 로마 헤르츠도서관의 막스플랑크 미술사연구소(Max Planck Institute for Art History)에서 오랜 시간 연구원으로 일했다. 그는 나폴리에 위치한 Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici의 교무 위원회 회원과 Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften의 준회원이다. 2003년부터 2009년까지 킹스턴에 위치한 퀸스 대학교에서 남부 바로크 미술학과 베이더 학과장을 역임했고, 2009년에 빈대학교에서 근세미술사학 교수로 임명되었다.
